Ahhhh....relaxation....the kids are sleeping and I opted not to have the tv on tonight....
just me & the laptop.

So, the store is coming along. We (not that I am physically doing anything yet, LOL) got 2 coats of primer came in on his own on Friday to finish that up. It changed the whole store to a somewhat cheerier place! Wait till the color actually goes up.

So, today my contractor tore out the boxed in bench that sat below the front window. It was about 3 feet deep and acted as a display stage, but I opted to clear that whole space out, making th whole store look larger. I'll eventually put up a glass shelf or maybe use some decorative columns to place the cake dummies on. I'll photograph that tomorrow.

The next step is to call the glass guy for a new front window. I decided on a b & w checkered floor, perhaps marble.

Meanwhile, I'm still cranking out those cakes. Here's one I did for a friend this weekend in a Moroccan theme:

OK, I have a big dummy cake to make for a chocolatier/candy shoppe tomorrow. Ooooh, what fun!! I'll definitely post those photos...

nighty nite...

So far, so good...

Good was a good day. Although I didn't visit the shop, news is that the walls were all primed and an unnecessary soffit above my front window was removed. It was hollow and really served no purpose, so we opened up the space. I looked at ceilings yesterday and there is some beautiful stuff out there! Here's one of the many styles:
The best part is that I found a great plumber and an engineer to do all the paperwork. One less thing to worry about! Now, to get the electricity under my name before the lights go out, LOL!
I will take some more photos tomorrow and post them for all to see!
I'm looking forward to a Morroccan cake that I am making this weekend. I can't wait to post those photos for you, too!

Enjoy your evening!

The New Shop!!

Ok, I know it's been a loooooong while since I posted last, but there is a good reason. I've been super busy with the cakes, 2 kids, work, school, church & scouts! Whew...I'm tired just thinking about it all.
I am happy to announce that I am finally taking the plunge and opening up a Specialty Cake Shop of my very own. I was very picky with the location & basically, I waited until the one I wanted became available. I got lucky, I guess, becasue a few months past when the lanlord told me the good news.
Ideally, I should have started this documentary on June 1st. That's technically the day the other tenant left and I brought my contractor to take a look at it.
Yesterday was the first day of renovations. It was a clothing store, but a very drab and dreary one! Here's a photo of the current outside.
It will take a few weeks, but, soon enough you will see what is in my head at the moment. :)

This was a photo from contractor brother and my dad fixing the walls.
I'm having trouble deciding on a name. I think anything with "Irene" in it sounds kinda mom-and-pop-ish....what do you guys think? Irene's Cake Shoppe?
more tomorrow...

This Youtube video is of some earlier cakes....

Where have I been? It's a looooong story. The important thing is that I found my way back....still creating...still baking....
I'm in the middle of an updated Youtube video...look out for that...
I know...I know...I've been promising how-to's and stuff....I apologize for the delay...believe me when I tell you my life has been quite busy. I write this now as my 6 yr. old hovers over me and tells me stories about her knew you can imagine.
I'll be back later....
